Your project sounds like a good one and could build into some very nice digital stories. You might want to add a piece to your rubric about organization and summarizing content rather that preparation. Some students may require lots of assistance but only because they don’t know the application they are using. You might also want to add something that talks about compare/contrast. In addition, using this rubric, only 33% of the points come from content.

This is one of the "big" questions as we move from "vinyl" to digital. Technically, if the record is available as a digital file, you need to purchase the digital edition. This gets a little crazy so, my reaction (no legal basis) is--go ahead and make your vinyl record digital--but keep a record of the original purchase. One other thing to consider, however, is the amount of time it will take to transfer all of those vinyl records--if it takes 45 minutes/record and a teacher makes $35.00/hour; then it just cost more than $20 in labor--not a good use of a teacher's time :-)

Time flys when you're an SBTS right? The average teacher makes between 400-1000 decisions every day...not sure where the SBTS fits but I'm sure we may exceed that number. Try not to despair, you will find the time to fit this into your plans.

WOW! When I started reading this post I couldn't stop. I almost wanted to cry halfway through and just exclaim, someone else really does have days like mine. We are all so alone in our positions at school when we do our day to day work, that I so often forget that our colleagues experience these same whirlwind days.

I have found myself thinking as I drive home at the end of the day, when will I get to have my chance to do something truly creative and fabulous this year...besides being the fabulous fix it girl? When will I have a chance to try out some cutting edge ideas? I find that the days roll by, and I am running (literally breaking that rule quite often in the hallways) to catch up.

As tired as we are in the evenings, that is what I love about this class. I love having the opportunity to at least experience some of these new tools and discuss new ideas with colleagues who all are very familiar with the reality of our "when can you come help me?" days.

Hang in there ixtapan. We may not get to roll out these tools immediately, but we will get there. Somewhere along that road, more teachers will learn the difference between a power cord and an Ethernet cable. They will spread this knowledge, and someday the wireless emergencies will deplete and we will only vaguely remember how they sent us running around our buildings. At that time, maybe we will be running to support some Web 2.0 specific questions.

Yes, yes I empathize. I too reviewed some of the K-12 online conferences and finished charged to find some way to integrate them at my school. So often we walk in the office fresh with our to-do list and great ideas to begin a new day only to get slammed with frustrated, inpatient teachers and staff. We end up spending most of the day answering phone calls, troubleshooting other people's 'emergencies' that we have to remind ourselves to eat. If I get even two things done off my own long to-do list, you consider it a good day of accomplishment. And don't you just love it when it takes awhile to get to check someone's problem, only to find it resolved itself! Sometimes the grateful look of appreciation from a teacher you helped is enough to make your day worthwhile.

So sorry to hear about your loss, but thanks for sharing Mighty Mite's story. There must be something special about black cats with white paws - Mighty Mite brings back memories of my all time favorite cat, Pete-e, who passed over 20 years ago. Your memories will last....

There's nothing that prepares you for this. Your friend and companion, who was "just a cat" is gone. I grieve with you and for you....and hope that the memories bring you comfort in the days ahead.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. My beloved Roxy was put to rest a few years ago and I understand the tremendous loss you are feeling. I hope your memories will comfort you and bring a smile to your face when you most need it.

Hi,
This is a test to see if I can post into your comments, I agree with you that this blog thing should be fun for an old timer like myself. I hope that I can learn quickly how to blog with you.
